Jaw Surgeries
In some cases, orthodontic treatment may need to be combined with jaw surgery to achieve the best possible results. Here are a few examples of the types of surgical procedures we may recommend:
Orthognathic Surgery (OGS)
This procedure realigns the jaws to correct dental and skeletal irregularities. It is often suggested to address issues such as underbite, overbite, open bite, or significant jaw asymmetry. By repositioning the jaws, this surgery helps improve both function and appearance.
Maxillomandibular Advancement (MMA) Surgery
MMA surgery involves moving the upper and lower jaws forward to correct facial and jaw abnormalities. This procedure is particularly effective for patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA)—a sleep disorder that causes repeated interruptions in breathing during sleep. By improving jaw alignment, MMA can help alleviate symptoms like chronic fatigue, high blood pressure, and other health issues related to OSA.
Total Joint Replacement (TJR)
For individuals with severe pain, dysfunction, or limited movement in the jaw, Total Joint Replacement may be recommended. This procedure involves replacing the damaged temporomandibular joint (TMJ) with a prosthetic joint to restore function, relieve pain, and enhance overall jaw mobility. TJR can also be performed in conjunction with single or double jaw surgeries for more comprehensive treatment.
